A server is a computer that provides a service to students and teachers connected to your school network.
A server may be used for storing files, sharing web pages, filtering web sites, providing network services such as DHCP, or storing and collating data shared between teachers and students.
Some schools use a single server to provide all of these services, while other (larger) schools maintain separate servers for each of these services.
These pages provide links to resources that may be useful for school computer co-ordinators and support staff who are responsible for maintaining school servers.
With high speed broadband internet access now widely available to schools, many services that were once provided by a server on the school network (a ‘local’ server) are now available from remote servers (‘cloud’ servers)….
